Problem Analysis

PESTLE Analysis

Political

  • opportunity- Ghana’s blend of multi-party competition and patron-client politics generates much stronger incentives to improve access to education (threat)- than to improve the quality of education. The general failure to improve accountability in the education sector, particularly regarding the proportion of highly-trained teachers who spend time on task, has led to poor educational outcomes that directly reflect how politics and governance work in Ghana.

  • opportunity-Where good practice does emerge, this is usually through the efforts of reform-minded coalitions of state and non-state actors at district and school levels, with the capacity to devise and enforce problem-solving solutions to local problems.

  • threat- Decentralisation reforms have created the space for these kinds of coalitions to emerge, but have not systematically improved performance. This is because of failures to ensure coherence with centralized aspects of education sector governance, as well the ways in which district-level politics play out.

Economic

  • The standard of Education in our government schools in Ghana is and can be greatly affected by economic factors. The economic factors pose a threat to these schools because, Government is not able to raise or secure enough funding for the schools to have better and ultra modern educational infrastructure like labs, libraries and even classrooms. The poor state of the infrastructure in most of these schools, does not make learning and schooling in general conducive for the school children. It can also pose as an opportunity because, if the Nation’s economy develops, the government can channel funds into the educational sector and be able to renovate most of these government schools to make the environment more conducive for learning.

Environmental

  • The learning environment dramatically affects the learning outcomes of students. Schools' open space and noise, inappropriate temperature, insufficient light, overcrowded classes, misplaced boards, and inappropriate classroom layout all makeup factors that could be confounding variables distracting students in the class.
